celebrating nelson mandela day in mpumalanga

CELEBRATING NELSON MANDELA DAY IN MPUMALANGA

This year’s Nelson Mandela Day saw the South African Farmers Development Association (SAFDA) coming together with the Sakhisizwe Youth Development Organisation (SYDO) to keep the spirit of the revered statesman alive through philanthropic work in Komati (Malelane), Mpumalanga.

SAFDA team, led by Executive Chairman, Dr Siyabonga Madlala, with the youth from Masibekela community at Sakhisizwe Youth Development Organisation.

SAFDA's commitment to uplifting communities was evident through the generous donations, which included seedlings, farming equipment, a JoJo tank, as well as soccer and netball kits and balls. These contributions aim to support the growth and development of SYDO, a youth initiative based in Masibekela. SYDO was formed to address the critical challenges facing the youth in the region, particularly unemployment, drug abuse, school dropout rates, and teenage pregnancy. By focusing on activities such as agriculture, sports, and skills development, SYDO provides the youth with valuable opportunities for personal and community growth.

The event served as a powerful embodiment of Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy. His words, “There can be no greater gift than that of giving one's time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return,” resonated deeply throughout the day's activities. SAFDA’s contributions not only provided immediate resources but also reinforced the importance of community solidarity and support.

As we reflect on the success of this event, SAFDA remains dedicated to continuing its mission of supporting and empowering communities. We look forward to more collaborative efforts that will further Nelson Mandela's vision of a united and thriving society.

Together, we should keep the spirit of Nelson Mandela alive and make a lasting impact on our communities.
